This article talks about friendship in marriage, but it applies to any friend in your life.

---------
A special friendship is what a marriage relationship is all about. At its root, marriage is not sex, romance, emotional highs, or pleasure. All these are part of the total relationship, but the core of marriage is a partnership built on emotional closeness, acceptance of one another, and fulfilling companionship. You can strengthen your marriage friendship. It will take commitment, work, and time.

---------
Are their other things that you think a good friend should do?

Good friends should be honest and trustworthy and reliable. Not deceitful, lying, cheating. How else can a true friendship be grown?

Friends should always tell you the truth about the big things. There is a time for small white lies, not that everyone tells them, but friends should tell you what is good for you and not just what will make you feel better in the short term.

Couldn't be more true. One of the best things I've noted is what it said of being able to cut loose and fun with each other. There's nothing worse then hanging out with someone and you always feel like you have to test the ice. It's also true, I must say, that you really don't need much in common to be friends. Heck, I have great friends that are the total opposite of me! All you need to be best friends is to be of the same species, and even that's subjective-my dog is one of my best friends! :-)
